Accommodations Related to Any Other Reason

UChicago Medicine will do its best to help employees perform their job with or without accommodations. A reasonable adjustment to job duties or work environment to enable an employee to perform the essential parts of his/her job without causing undue hardshipEvery request will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

When departing from existing policies that apply to all employees, specific job functions and collectively bargained rules for union employees, requests are discretionary depending upon the reason and business needs.

When an employee requests an accommodation not related to his/her own disability, consider the following:

  • What are the essential parts of the job for the employee?
  • Is there a way to modify the job while approving the request for accommodation? (For example, can the duties of the job be handled in a way where the employee does some parts of the job and co-workers do other parts of the job?)
  • What, if any, hardships will the department and UChicago Medicine face by granting this accommodation?
    • Are these hardships financial or connected to safety and/or patient care?
    • Are there ways to mitigate the hardship?
  • If you are considering approval, is there an end date within the next few months?

If you are considering denying the request or wish to discuss the case, please contact Feroze Khan (773-834-2167 or Feroze.Khan@uchospitals.edu).
